His short INHERENT premiered at Semaine de la critique at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021 while his mid-length film IF YOU KNEW (2022) won the audience award at the Brive Film Festival, and was an official selection at the 56th Karlovy Vary International Film festival.
Johansen is interested in character-driven narratives, usually centering on lonely people struggling to connect to the world. He likes to subvert genre in order to find the relatable in the irregular, and is especially passionate about portraying mental vulnerability, without judgment or condescension.
